Next Workday - Saturday 8th 11am

Over the last few months we've been clearing the brambles, peeling back the undergrowth from fruit trees and bushes (including a grape vine), doing some rudimentary terracing and planting our first crops.

We'll be having another workday on Saturday 8th June from 11am onwards where we're planning to:
- put up a greenhouse
- make some outdoor furniture
- clear more brambles/find more gems in the undergrowth
- do some more terracing
- plant out some more crops

...lots to do...
....please come and help us create this space!

Also, we are very low on tools: please get in touch if you're able to lend us some for the day. We can come and collect them, and drop them off cleaned and happy.

And if anyone is able to donate gardening tools/materials or any wood for sheds and benches, please get in touch too!

bring lunch to share
hope to see you there!

Wouldn't it be lovely if...

The Design

The design we presented for the permaculture course hopes to give people plenty of opportunities within the site, allowing people to come together.

We came up with a design for the area under the stone wall at the top of the site which is currently very overgrown.  Our design takes this area to be one unified space which would be openly accessible for anyone who wants to be involved  The idea is to create a community growing space with some different growing activities going on, so that people can come and try out (or teach) different things.  We'd be more than happy to come and discuss our designs with you, and generally talk further about this.

On the following design you can see we have included:

- A greenhouse
- Large terraced beds
- A seating areas encorporating a herb garden
- Compost area
- Fan trained trees on the wall
- Comfrey patch
- Stepped and sloping path
- Cold frames for propogation
- Pond for water catchment - A vital part of our plan!

This is a 3 year plan of the site

Background on the site

This is the site of the proposed new design for a community allotment.

As part of a permaculture course 5 people got together to see if they could design a site that would become an assest to the community. Knowing the site as a mainly derelict it seemed the perfect location. We looked into the history of the area and began a consultation process with many residents in the area. From this we found that people would enjoy using the site once again as it had previously been thriving allotments however we also noted a few areas of concern including issues surrounding conservation of wildlife, knotweed and vandalism / fires.

We drew up a site survey and explored the limiting factors to our design.
